Channing Guest House

I recently took a new job in the SF Bay Area. I grew up in Maryland and this has all been a new experience for me. I found the Channing Guest House on craigslist and it seemed like a cheaper solution than a hotel. Judy was very accommodating and helpful with the whole process; she even offered to pick me up at the BART Station. I stayed here while I looked for housing in the Bay Area. The house is very rustic and has a very homely feeling. One morning Judy asked if I had plans and I told her my day was an open book. She offered to buy me lunch if I helped her with a few things a historic Oakland house, The Cohen Bray House. It sounded like a deal to me. I would certainly stay here again in the future and would recommend it highly. She is very friendly and is witty as well!

Judy is a wonderful human being and went way beyond the normal responsibilities of a B&B hostess to be attuned to my needs and to make my stay very comfortable. I stayed four days, and the first day she gave me an walking around orientation to the neighborhood and local restaurants. She was responsive to my food sensitivities, provided interesting conversation without being intrusive, and made sure my room was comfortable. The room itself exuded warm colors, a very comfortable bed, and many artifacts from her multitude of interests. I was traveling alone, and felt safe and able to go about my business without any worries, knowing I would come back to human connection who had no agenda for me other than my comfort during my stay. The price was very reasonable. I highly recommend Channing Guest House as a safe home away from home during your travels.

Nice cozy place in a safe neighborhood. The host Judy is a sweet nice lady we enjoy so much to stay with. You have to try her home made cookies, pies, the perfect sweetness will sent you to heaven. We will certainly come back just to have her best pies in town. LOL. The house is old but she keeps the room very " elegant and clean. Overall experience is certainly a great one.

My wife and I stayed with Judy at her home away from home. What a Great host and the Lemon Cake was pretty good too, LOL In the evening we drove down to San Francisco Bay and ate dinner with Judy and her good friend. What a view of the Bay, Great Friends, Great Food and Great View, Priceless. We hope to stay here again on our next trip through Emeryville on Amtrak. Thanks Again Judy for your Hospitality!! Very nice and lovely house and host, Judy was really kind and allowed me to stay there while she had a cancellation. I was traveling from San Diego to the Bay Area to do an experimental Native American ceremony therapy for my PTSD and anxiety/depression symptoms for the first time, so this was very calming and stress relieving for my stay there as I was having a really difficult time finding suitable accommodations.

Comfy guest room that will make you feel like you're staying at your mum's. Breakfast was all homemade (from bread to yogurt, granola, apple juice, ... even the eggs from the chickens in the backyard!) Would definitely recommend this place if you're staying in Berkeley.

Cute home with wonderful antiques. Enjoyed the hospitality.
