I was coming back from Charter Boat fishing and decided to stop here. It was a very interesting day, I will remember this. I did not catch anything, lost a couple fishing rigs on stuff in the water. Saw a ton of shady goings on so much that I went back to check on my truck twice. Had a guy come up and overed me a 40 oz Olde English for a fishing pole But this was a new pole so I declined. There were several people in the bushes discussing the bible. I saw a trot line in the water and some little man dragging it in. Another guy was singing real loud to his family in spanish, he was pretty good but intoxicated for sure. They were having a picnic I think it was Al Pastor it smelled really good. Lot of trash everywhere, I decided that an hour was enough excitement and I left. I did film it for my YouTube channel (thevirginiastew) but I decided not to upload it. Best of luck to ya, maybe I was in the wrong part of the park.
One of my favorite places to visit. Evening sunsets are beautiful out on the James River. Morning hikes down the Richmond Slave Trail is an enlightening experience, but be careful, there are a lot of wildlife around, especially black snakes. There’s the docking pier so naturally so, this is a shared space. Rocket’s Landing is across the river.
Very clean .plenty of shady places to rest and there's paw paws along the river . Spend alot of time here and it's wonderful . Porta Potty's are cleaned regularly as far as I can tell and the fishing is great
The water level is said to be around 12.6 , Tuesday morning. I took these pictures around 4:15pm Tuesday. The damage to property and amount of debris is crazy. The fast pace of the river was just mind blowing, and dangerous... Please use caution when stopping and taking pictures.
Cool place to visit but not for the history. We visited to check out the slave trail. Not really much to see in the way of the history of it all outside of a few posts that marked the trail and a few informational signs here and there. But the area is pretty scenic and the actual trail was fine. There is also a boat landing and lots of places for fishing 🎣..
Found this park today. It had a pretty awesome running loop and it's not too far outside the city. I basically took the flood wall into the park and ran back to Belle island..
Nice park. Both in the city but has the feel of being in nature. Nice boat ramp with history. The bank on the river here is steep. There was a lot of trash all around the park today. There are a few picnic tables and two port-a-potties. Historical trail is mulched. Has good signs with information about the history of the slave trail. There is a lot of poison ivy along the trail. Many good sized rocks placed to sit on in the park. No playground here 👍.
