Gosport Tavern has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on over 928 reviews on Google
Stopped by here while in town on business. Atmosphere was warm and charming with a nice whiskey selection. Bartender and patrons were all friendly and they were serving brunch options as well as the normal lunch menu. I decided to try several menu items since I had time to kill. The soup of the day was Pork Chili and it was pretty tasty. The above 5 sentences were the only positives. I played it safe by getting the breakfast flatbread wrap. It contained Shredded Prime Rib and scrambled eggs with Cheddar Cheese. I asked for American Cheese (so that it would not be dry) but that was not accommodated. It was flavorless and dry. I then ordered the waffle ($5) thinking that surely it could not be messed up but it was the worst waffle that I’ve ever had. It tasted as if the batter was missing a couple of key ingredients (salt and a leavening agent) because it was chewy and flavorless. I have never had to put salt on a waffle, but I did. I know that different cultures have different tastes, but based off of the food that i had, there is no way that this place should have a 4.5 rating. Maybe 3 at best for being a nice spot to enjoy the game, a drink, and friendly bar conversations.
Had my birthday dinner here. Highly recommend! My server was awesome. Food was great. They even have a drinking challenge you can do with whiskey and bourbon.
Very friendly staff. Service was prompt. Both my husband's and my orders were very well prepared. Amazing Mac and cheese, fried chicken was very good too not dry. Generous portions (and I have a very large appetite), reasonably priced. We will definitely comeback to try more dishes! Absolutely recommend.
Very yummy, this is the second time I’ve come here and there was trivia which was quite welcoming and fun. The fried pickles were very good, not some cheap frozen stuff, these boys were definitely hand breaded and fried here. I got the Thai wings which were sweet and the bleu cheese dressing/dipping sauce is so good. Wings do not come with celery FYI. I got the spinach salad which was also so good. Both these dishes had the perfect amount of sweetness. This food is deserving of the five star review and the bar tender is a chill dude. Great atmosphere great food.
Was looking for a place to watch the Navy Army game and boy were we happily surprised! The service couldn't have been any better or friendly and the food was absolutely fantastic! Everything was homemade and you could taste the freshness in their ingredients. Wether you are looking for a great American meal or a few drinks, I highly recommend you check out this cozy place.
Tried this place with a friend who'd been there before. It was pretty dead on a Sunday afternoon, people started to get there when we were leaving. Our waiter was very friendly and offered beer recommendations when we asked. The food was pretty good. I got the tuna burger and it was yummy. My friend got the chicken sandwich and enjoyed it. The fries were amazing! The overall vibe of the place was nice; very much a casual, friendly, and quiet pub.
Gosport Tavern is an locally owned bar/pub with varied food offerings. We hadn't been in several years (before they tried to open the grocery store beside the restaurant). COVID protocol is followed very well. I never realized how large the location is until all the tables were moved/taken out. We started with the fried pickles. They were so good, they didn't even last long enough for me to remember to take a picture. My wife ordered the cheeseburger with a side of the house made hush puppies. She mistakenly ordered it medium-well against the suggestion of the server. It was dry and tasteless. The hush puppies were delicious and slightly sweet paired with melted butter. I ordered the truffle chicken sandwich with a side of house chips. The chicken comes topped with drunken mushrooms and truffle oil. I could've eaten an entire bowl of the fungi. The house chips left a great deal to be desired. The dessert offerings looked great, but we were both full. Do not forget to factor in the insanely high Portsmouth City taxes on dining/food services. Added almost ~$10 to our bill.
