We loved every thing about this hotel; what a gem. A historical property which proudly displays its history but with all the modern amenities needed. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and provided an excellent night's sleep. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, honestly, they made it feel like home. There is a wonderful restaurant in the hotel as well. We loved it so much, we returned and took friends with us. Yes, it is just that special.

We chose Visitation Hotel for our annual team retreat, which is a meaningful investment for our small business and a special way to celebrate our extremely hardworking team. The property itself is beautiful, and the setting had a lot of potential for a memorable experience. Ahead of our arrival, I called to ask if the hotel could store our team’s bags since check in was not until 4 pm and we had meetings scheduled earlier in the day. This request was met with resistance and very little flexibility. We were told there was no storage available at all, and one response was, "I didn’t know you didn’t want your team to touch their bags." This felt dismissive and surprising given the size of our group and the nature of a professional retreat. We also asked if cards could be placed in the rooms for our team. I understand that this may not be feasible for a small hotel, and that explanation was reasonable. However, the overall tone continued to feel unaccommodating. We requested that our 15 rooms be checked in ahead of our team’s arrival so we would not spend a significant amount of time at the front desk. After multiple refusals, this was eventually accommodated, though it took considerable effort on our part. The meeting room rental required that all food and beverages be provided by the hotel, with no outside options allowed. Given the cost, the food was very expensive and quite mediocre, which added to the overall experience feeling out of balance. Visitation Hotel is visually lovely, and the location is fantastic, but for a group retreat of this scale and investment, we expected a more welcoming and service-oriented experience. If hospitality and flexibility are a priority, it may be worth exploring other options.

We held our daughter's wedding reception at Visitation - and booked it before it was even fully finished. We knew we were taking a chance, with no track record or reviews to guide us. It ended up being exactly what we hoped for and more. Working with Mazie from Visitation made the entire planning process seamless and she made sure that our vision became a reality. The food was exceptional - many of our guests shared that it was the best wedding reception food they had ever had. The cocktails were fantastic and the servers (both bar and wait staff) were professional and even added to the fun! The ambience in the tent for cocktail hour and in the ballroom for dinner and dancing was elegant. HIGHLY recommend!!

We got married in early November at The Visitation Hotel, which served as the perfect place for a wedding reception and wedding weekend "base camp" for guests. The central downtown Frederick location was unbeatable – highly walkable to the ceremony church, restaurants, bars, and shop. Having accommodations, catering, and the bar service all in one place was incredibly convenient. The staff was exceptional. Everyone was attentive, proactive, and genuinely kind. Mazie, our venue lead, organized a wonderful menu tasting, checked in throughout the big day, and during cocktail hour the service team made sure we got to taste everything as the guests of honor – such a thoughtful touch! The team was also wonderfully collaborative with our vendors, making planning seamless. The food and service were outstanding, and our guests are still raving about the celebration. We wholeheartedly recommend The Visitation Hotel to anyone getting married in Frederick.

This Marriott fills a tremendous void, as there are currently no other hotels in downtown Frederick. I can't do a proper comparison of the before/after renovation, as I wasn't familiar with the property when it was a previous school for girls, but I found the hotel to be exceptional while somewhat quirky. The signage for valet parking and the check in area, which is on the 2nd floor, is very clear and obvious. There are 3 city parking garages that are 3 or less blocks away that I would recommend to save some $$. We stayed in room 304 and it was well appointed, secluded and quiet. As other reviewers have noted, I would be hesitant on staying on any 1st level room, especially those located below the bar/restaurant and the reception area. Even though we didn't eat at the restaurant, we stopped in the bar for drinks. Some folks may say that it's distasteful to have a bar in a renovated chapel, but I found it beautifully done. Rates aren't cheap, but the rooms are very nice, and the accessibility to the restaurants, breweries, and distilleries of the downtown area make it hard to beat. Staff was friendly, courteous and prompt. We will definitely return!!

Highly recommended staying in this historic building converted into hotel about a year ago. If this were in a bigger city the rooms would easily be $500+ a night. Every corner of the hotel is decorated and well thought out. Our group was greeted with a welcome drink and snacks at checkin as well as told about the hotel amenities. If you like smaller hotels with character then this is for you. Being in a historic building there are limitations on space for amenities but still a very nice hotel! There is also a cafe and high end restaurant on the main floor.

Visitation Hotel is a true standout in Frederick. We’ve had the pleasure of working with their team as a cake and dessert purveyor for weddings and events, including a collaborative project bringing eight custom cake designs to life, each inspired by the hotel’s beautifully curated spaces. The creative vision, attention to detail, and respect for artistry were exceptional throughout. Beyond our professional partnership, I’ve also enjoyed Visitation as a guest during community events and as a patron of Wye Oak Tavern, where the food and cocktails are thoughtfully crafted and super delicious. The architectural transformation of the historic academy is stunning and endlessly inspiring. I also love stopping by Acorn Provisions for a coffee and enjoying it on the back porch. There is something simple, yet elevated there, especially on a sunny day. Grateful for this beautiful addition to Frederick’s hospitality landscape.
