Budget friendly hostel. Excellent location. Atmosphere is nostalgic and cozy. The rooms have been lightly remodeled, and housekeeping keeps everything super clean. Noise levels were fine, it's a hostel, and a little noise is to be expected. They have free ear plugs at reception if needed. Customer service is fantastic! Love the staff! The tiki theme outdoor lounge areas are so perfect and cute! So excited to return!

Traveling solo always gives me a little flutter of nerves, but this place completely melted that away. The vibe here is pure good energy—no matter your age 😄—and the whole place is honestly adorable. The common area is super warm and welcoming, always hosting little social moments, and powered by an endless supply of coffee and tea available 24/7. They also organize daily adventures around LA, which makes it unbelievably easy to meet people or pick up priceless tips on where to find the city’s best hidden lunch spots.||The location couldn’t be better either: Beverly Hills is practically a neighbor, The Grove is right down the road, and Melrose is close enough for an easy wander. A+ convenience.||Whenever I needed anything—extra blankets, or just reassurance that yes, buying a second dessert was a good idea—someone was right there, cheerful and totally on top of things. The guests were genuinely lovely too. Even as a solo traveler, I ended up making friends faster than expected. I’m now heading off to the Bay Area with a couple of amazing guys I met here from Portugal. And to think I walked in wondering if I’d eat all my meals alone!||Overall, I had such a great stay and honestly wish I’d carved out more time to just hang out and soak up the atmosphere. If extending my trip had been an option, I’d still be there sipping tea in that common room.

Very clean. However the smell of cleaning products is too strong. The ‘tiki’ theme is very problematic with all of the stereotypical fake native ‘decor’ in the courtyard. I won’t be choosing BB next time I’m in town if that’s not fixed. Staff were nice. Upon arrival I was given no information about things to do in the area. They have a bulletin board with the hostels events. I’m sure I could have asked. But the last time I stayed in a BB 10 years ago, there was an incredible amount of pamphlets and info sheets. For example, the schedule for "The Pickup" shuttle should be posted. The amenities were good and I was blessed with quiet and respectful dorm mates.

This is the best and most flexible hostel in LA. It's in the one of the best, if not the best spot. It's super relaxed and well formed. With a chance of smoking a joint outside and having a party with free drinks here (or at the other location) just finishes it off!

I had such a fun and comfortable stay at Banana Bungalow West Hollywood! From the moment I checked in, the staff made me feel welcome—they’re super friendly, laid-back, and always ready with good recommendations. The location is perfect—right in the heart of West Hollywood, with plenty of bars, restaurants, and entertainment within walking distance. It’s easy to meet other travelers here too, since the hostel has a very social vibe. The community events, common areas, and outdoor spaces make it easy to connect, but you can also just chill if you want your own downtime. The rooms and facilities are clean and well-kept, and the atmosphere is colorful, quirky, and full of character—exactly what you’d want in a spot like this. It feels safe, fun, and very "California." Overall, Banana Bungalow has the perfect mix of location, comfort, and good vibes. Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, it’s a great home base for exploring LA. Highly recommend!

They don’t have early check-in, so I had to find another hotel for the first night bc I came early in the morning after a long flight. They refused to refund me for that night, and when I came to check in the next day and expressed my complaint, they gave me no explanation. I said that I would write a negative review, after which the receptionist canceled my reservation for the second night. I then had to find another place to stay, spend extra money on taxis, and so on. I was shocked by their attitude toward guests.

3 items I left on the bed went missing, stay said they didn't find them, and the other guys in the dorm had odd vibes. Staff were nice, but It was the first time my things went missing after backpacking over at 30+ hostels in the world. I ended up checking out a few days early and switched to a private hotel room
