Location is great and in room furnishings are vintage and quirky. However, arrived on Dec 5 late, went to the room and there was no hot water. It came on at about 7am the next morning. Then again, on Saturday night Dec 6 the hot water went out again. Sleep quality was fine so was quietness and overall ambience. I was a bit confused with regard to the on property dining. There’s a small breakfast buffet each morning in the restaurant , but dinner appears to only be available Weds thru Sun. What’s not clear is whether this applies to room service as well. Bar is nice enough with attentive staff, welcoming and professional. Upon check out I was told at reception that their system was down and couldn’t be provided with a final bill or receipt, but that one would be emailed to me, but never was. Property is walking distance to a lot to see and do. Good sushi down the street, and the west coast’s only Muji Store around the block. Overall, if the price was right I’d consider staying again, but there may be better offerings in the area.
We recently stayed at this hotel in Portland and had a generally good experience, though there are definitely opportunities for improvement. The location is excellent—right in a busy area and close to plenty of restaurants, which was very convenient. The hotel itself is nice overall, but on the pricier side for what you get. The room, however, had several drawbacks. The bathroom lacked an exhaust fan, had very limited counter space, and felt extremely tight—especially if you have toiletries or a makeup kit. The makeup lamp wasn’t working, and the toilet flushed more like an airplane toilet, which was quite odd and a bit unsettling. Additionally, the hotel charges an extra $15 "credit" that they say can be used toward purchases on the property, but since even breakfast costs more than $20 per person, it doesn’t feel like a real benefit. It comes across more as an unnecessary extra charge than a value add. Overall, it was a decent stay thanks to the location, but the room features and extra fees made the experience feel less worth the price. With some improvements, this hotel could offer much better value.
I had a lovely stay at the Royal Sonesta. It's decor is charming and elegant, from the fireplace in the lobby to the bird wallpaper. I appreciated the attention to detail in the room: the high quality bath products, the good lighting, nice pillows and heating/AC system that was not loud and didn't blow air too hard. Also I loved the super high ceilings and downtown location. For all of this, the price is very reasonable. I'd stay here again.
Decent hotel for your money. Nothing special or fancy about it. Very old and rustic, could do a renovation to attract more tourists. Overall decent stay, staff was helpful and courteous. Most restaurants in walkable distance.
This is my second stay at this hotel, and I'm not sure what the difference is - my perspective or a year's neglect or what. My first stay I enjoyed the funky decor, this visit I've noticed all sorts of weird issues - there aren't sheer curtains on the windows, so the office buildings can see in or you're in total darkness. The drawers either are fake or broken, for example the nightstands look like they should have drawers and storage but are actually just hollow boxes. They upsell you on Wi-Fi so I can't get work done without paying an upcharge. No desk, wallpaper coming unglued, that sort of thing. Both times I paid a little extra to stay in a King Corner, it seems my first room had the normal small touches you'd expect from a 4-star hotel, and my second room is more of a motel that discovered Pinterest.
We were booked into the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Portland by our travel agent as we had gone in to book a holiday to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. All we knew was that we wanted to visit four areas of the West Coast. We had absolutely no idea where to stay, but, boy, were we delighted with the choice. As soon as we pulled up outside we were blown away by the beauty and appearance and the inside did not disappoint either. Our room is just beautiful with gorgeous furniture and fittings and so spacious. The staff are super helpful, and the jazz pianist, Julian, was so friendly. Thank you, Royal Sonesta, we will definitely be returning
We had a nice time staying at Royal Sonesta for two nights. Quirky hotel with unique rooms and a beautiful lobby. Our rate came with valet parking which I was happy to learn had in and out privileges. I appreciated their easy valet system. The room was large with a mini fridge (no microwave). There is a restaurant/bar attached but we didn’t get a chance to check it out. Very conveniently located to everything we were doing downtown. I personally hate the rolling bathroom doors but that seems to be the norm nowadays. When we walked in to our room there was a bit of a mildew smell. There was no fan in the bathroom, at least I couldn’t find it, which I think contributes to the smell. The staff were fairly friendly but did not greet us or say anything when we left each day so that was just ok. With that said I would stay again.
