Interesting place to stay. Onsite owner is an architect who renovated the building. The common area downstairs is open with a modern/Asian aesthetic divided into various living spaces; it's really lovely, quiet, and comfortable. It has a nice meditative quality to it. I stayed in the guest room with the bath across the hall - - it's no problem to manage and the bath is not shared with anyone else. Shower pressure/temp is great, bed comfortable, and the owner put thoughtful little touches here and there (a snack basket, city maps, extra supplies in the bath, etc). I was taking a personal break between visits to relatives and wanted to explore the inner beltway of Raleigh and this was the perfect centrally located spot for exploring and downtime. There is a very small, non-shedding and well behaved (adorable) dog onsite who shows up from time to time. You can choose to engage with him or not. The owner is a long time local and is super helpful with recommendations. Stay is personalized so you do feel like you are staying in a friend's home rather than a hotel so that may or may not be what you want. I enjoyed it and like the owner very much. He's a great guy.

In a very good location. The property is very clean and very comfortable. We stayed in the suite. The owner John was very proactive in communicating and also very accommodating to our needs to ensure we were comfortable. He also has great recommendations on restaurants and cafes. We liked it so much that we extended our stay. All older buildings have the downside of creaky floors. It wasn't a real problem when our neighbors were sleeping normal hours. We did had one night that our neighbors stayed up way past our bed time.

This beautifully designed, art-filled spot in a quiet residential neighborhood is truly a hidden gem. With only two guest rooms, it feels incredibly private and peaceful—almost like having your own personal boutique hotel. The space is full of thoughtful details and the downstairs lounge is especially peaceful—perfect for relaxing with a book, listening to music, or just soaking in the vibe. What made our stay unforgettable was our host, John. He was warm, gracious, and went out of his way to make us feel at home. We ended up having the most wonderful late-night conversations with him—something we’ll always remember. He’s the kind of host who turns a great trip into something truly special. We left not just well-rested, but with a new friend in Raleigh. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique, quiet, and welcoming place to stay!

If I could give this sanctuary more than 5 stars, I would. Every inch of this space tells a story — art collected from around the world, sculpted greenery and koi gliding through still water, lily pads floating beneath the gaze of elegant sculptures. It’s a living gallery, a meditation on design and serenity. We spent hours in the communal space, talking, laughing, and letting music fill the air (their sound system is state of the art). It was so comfortable and inspiring that we chose to stay in rather than venture out. John is not merely a host; he is a curator of experiences — part concierge, part architect, part storyteller. His presence elevates the stay without ever intruding upon it. We usually seek a new stay with every visit to Raleigh. But The Store has changed that. It’s more than accommodation; it’s an experience we’ll keep coming back to.

If you're looking for a fun unique place to stay in raleigh or a cool staycation if you are a local I think this place is for you! I stayed here for one night for a little fall getaway and loved it. I was one of the only ones here for the night and the whole downstairs felt like it was my own living room. I sat and read my book for over an hour. It was so peaceful and relaxing. This boutique hotel is tucked away right in downtown Raleigh and if you weren't paying attention you would pass right by it, but don't book ,your stay and catch up on some sleep. The beds will make sure you get a nice slow, easy start to your day.

John is a host with great taste, a gift for the gab and a love for Raleigh. He will let you now the best spots for dinner, coffee and an afternoon walk. The rooms are spotless, beautiful and comfortable. There is a chill vibe that permeates The Store and a super cute puppy as well!

We stayed at The Store this past weekend and had a truly wonderful experience. John was an exceptional host—communicative, thoughtful, and welcoming from start to finish. He made check-in incredibly easy, even accommodating our arrival time, and provided clear instructions that made everything stress-free. The space itself was spotless, charming, and exactly as described—full of character with all the comforts we needed. We especially appreciated John’s personal touches and his care in making sure we had everything for a comfortable stay. It’s rare to find a host so genuinely invested in making guests feel at home. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend The Store to anyone visiting the area. Thank you, John, for your outstanding hospitality!
