We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Lafayette! This is a truly unique property that has been thoroughly planned in every nook and cranny. It is especially convenient that Lou Lou’s and Quixote are on the property. Even though the hotel is on a Main Street, the area is still fairly walkable - North Park is nearby. We walked to get food multiple times. The pool and lobby are fantastic and there were always loads of people taking Instagram photos. However, the real stars were the staff! I found them to be helpful and energetic the entire time, despite a packed hotel. This is one of THE places to stay in San Diego and I recommend it for couples and friend groups alike!

Stayed 3 nights and loved it! Extremely aesthetically pleasing - loved the retro, maximalist style. Enjoyed lunch at the outdoor patio- good value, good food. Loved the lively atmosphere in the lobby Saturday night! Overall yes, we could hear some noise in our room, but if youre sensitive to sound they include ear buds in the room - and to be honest, I slept well without the ear buds. Excellent AC in the room and an exceptional in room "mini" bar -- not mini at all! Adequately priced too. Would love to return!

Stopped into the Lafayette for a drink or 2 with my wife about a month ago and haven't stopped thinking about it since! The pool bar has one of the best views I've ever seen, and all the the bartenders and servers I met were just wonderful! I was particularly enamored by the lobby bar. It feels like a genuine 30s/40s bar, classy but not pretentious. It felt like the perfect place to order a martini, so I asked my bartender, Claire, for a Gibson--and it was PERFECT, the balance I'd been looking for. So good I asked her to tell me how she made it so I could replicate it at home, and she was happy to oblige! I make it twice a week at least. Can't wait to come back and check out the jazz bar on our next trip to San Diego!

Did not recently stay here. I have been a loyal patron of the Lafayette for many years, both before and after the renovation. The property itself is beautiful, and the DJs and musicians has always been a strong part of its appeal. However, this Saturday 1/31/2026 my partner and I walked over to grab a coffee and potentially sit at the diner for breakfast. Upon arrival, a valet attendant appeared to open the door for us, then abruptly ignored us as we approached and allowed the door to be shut in our faces. When we turned back, clearly surprised, the attendant walked off in another direction without acknowledgment. On its own, this would have been disappointing but forgettable. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. We have experienced consistently poor service (valet and bar service specifically) during multiple visits. A note that the staff at the coffee bar were wonderful. We stayed for coffee, but opted to leave due to the experience we had with the valet. This review is shared so management can address the conduct of front-of-house staff and reinforce basic standards of professionalism and hospitality. The Lafayette has built a reputation for quality, and recent experiences suggest that standard is no longer being upheld.

A Birthday Getaway to Remember! I booked The Lafayette Hotel for my birthday weekend, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations! From the moment I called to inquire about a room upgrade, Gabriel was incredibly gracious and helpful — and to my delight, the room I had hoped for was available. Check-in was smooth, and the lobby? Spectacularly decorated and full of character. My room (King Suite with balcony) was ready upon arrival, allowing me to settle in right away. I was especially touched to find a handwritten birthday/welcome note from Gabriel waiting for me — such a thoughtful gesture and the perfect start to my stay! The room itself was beautifully designed, unique, and so comfortable. Even though it rained, I still enjoyed the charm of the balcony, and my absolute favorite feature was the freestanding bathtub just steps from the king-size bed — a dream! I got to soak and unwind after a long day out, and it felt like pure luxury. The hotel also offers so many great spots to lounge, dine, and be entertained — from the stylish common areas to the fantastic shows at Lou Lou’s. It truly feels like the place to be, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you, Lafayette team, for making my birthday so special!

My best friend and I stayed here for my 40th bday. The rooms and property are so beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the restaurants on site. A must for the ambiance alone! Only set back was the noise levels but we were told when we checked in and there are earplugs for each guest. We hope to return soon!

I was genuinely excited to stay here. I will be honest, social media influenced me. A few friends had also stayed and raved about it. That said, we travel differently. I am a luxury traveler at heart. I want the experience to feel seamless, elevated, and effortless from the moment we arrive. When I saw this hotel had earned a Michelin Key, which is a newer but prestigious rating system, I decided to give it a try. First impressions: the hotel is absolutely stunning. The design, the energy, and the aesthetic are beautiful. It is undeniably a vibe. It feels like a glamorous, lively party spot with strong personality. If you care about atmosphere and visual storytelling, this place delivers. However, the arrival experience did not match the luxury positioning. We were told there was no luggage cart available, and our room was on the fourth floor while the elevator only goes to the third. We had to carry our luggage up a flight of stairs. It also felt like valet staffing was limited. There were multiple cars arriving at once, and while the staff was kind, the process did not feel smooth. Asking for help with bags felt awkward, and at this price point, that part of the experience should feel seamless. The concierge who checked us in was incredibly gracious and kind. Truly lovely. But the overall check in flow lacked the polish I expect from a property marketed at this level. Our room was located above the bar, and the hotel thoughtfully provided earplugs in advance, acknowledging potential noise. Thankfully, it was not disruptive for us, but this is something future guests should be aware of. It is a lively hotel. The room itself was beautifully styled. The mini bar selection was excellent. However, attention to detail could be improved. The luxury cherries had clearly been opened and partially used, and the jar appeared to have been re-taped. The knife in the room also appeared used. These are not deal breakers and are easily fixable, but small details matter in a hotel positioning itself as elevated. The bathtub was quite small and definitely not the romantic two person soak one might imagine for a couples getaway. The biggest gap for me was the arrival and departure experience. Having stayed in other high end hotels, that part did not feel luxury level. It felt slightly disjointed. All that said, it is beautiful. It is fun. It is worth visiting. The energy is magnetic. I do think social media has played a role in the pricing and hype, and I personally felt it was slightly overpriced for the level of amenities provided. Would I stay again? Maybe, but I would go in understanding it is a design forward, high energy boutique hotel with personality, not a traditional luxury property focused on white glove service. If you are coming for the vibe, the aesthetic, and the scene, you will love it. If you are coming expecting seamless, quiet luxury, you may feel a slight disconnect.
