I've stayed over the thanksgiving weekend for the last 2 years at the Cartwright Hotel. The rooms are pretty darn nice, very updated, lovely wooden floors, marble bathroom, the most luxe comfortable beds, in room coffee, and coffee ( good coffee) in the morning in the lobby, Nice smart TV in room. Half a block from Union Square, so close to China Town and Nob Hill. All the places we want to go. But the thing I like the very most is how sweet the people who work there are. Honestly, so kind and always helpful. The hallways are dated, ( this is an antique building after all) The Lobby is very modern and full of light. Overall a pleasant and inexpensive place to stay.
Great hotel in a great downtown location. A rather older historic building but is maintained fairly well. I loved the buildings character. The staff is friendly, everything was in working order. The only downside is that the rooms are small but very comfortable and workable.. The biggest inconvenience was the tiny sink areas in the bathroom.
This hotel is great. Clean, well equipped. I had a queen room: small bathroom but nice towels. Comfortable bed and a very nice little sofa seat built into the room corner. Coffee machine. No fridge or microwave. But only $100/night, 2 blocks from Union Square and right off Grant Ave and Powell. Parking is actually $40/night including tax so for $150 you get a really nice hotel in a fabulous location.
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights.the location was good, we learnt to use the public transport quite easily. There are a number of food places around the area, we could walk to- which was great. The downfall was that the bathroom was quite small, no water pressure or fans in there. We had no fridge to store food and there was no safe in the room to store valuables.
This place is so great! We've stayed here twice and I'd guess we'll keep staying here. The hotel itself is old but has been really well reimagined. I love the lobby area, with it's velvet green curtains and historical photos from the past. The bed is soft and comforting and the location cannot be beat. Next door is Blue Stone Cafe which is perfect for morning coffee and around the corner is Beanstalk Cafe which makes the best breakfast sandwiches in town. This is the perfect place to crash for a weekend in the city.
Stayed at the Cartwright Hotel for 6 days. The location is its strongest point . It’s centrally based and very convenient for sightseeing, with easy access to most places. However, the room was extremely small. The bathroom was cramped, and fitting two suitcases in the room was a struggle. Unlike most hotels, no complimentary bottled water was provided, which was disappointing. The frontline staff were generally unfriendly and did not greet guests. The only staff member who demonstrated a good level of customer service was Tia. Unfortunately, the rest did not meet basic customer service standards. Although the hotel states that the service desk operates 24 hours, this was not reflected in reality. One night around 1am, there was significant noise and a violent disturbance on our floor. We attempted to contact the front desk three times to lodge a complaint but received no response at all. This was extremely concerning and felt unsafe, especially during such incidents. Overall, while the location is convenient, the room size, lack of amenities, poor customer service, and safety concerns significantly impacted our stay.
This hotel has wonderful staff and a great location. They put out coffee and tea in the morning but there are several restaurants nearby. My room was nice but want to make one observation. I am a fairly small person. The bathroom into the shower is quite tight. If you are a larger person , please make sure to let them know. Other rooms might be different than mine. All in all I had a great stay and would book here again
