Rubies on Five Points

I had seen this place before and it had always caught my attention. Now that I had the chance to go in, I loved how it looks inside. I went on a Saturday and there was a live band playing. If you’re looking for a place to have long conversations, it would be hard here since the music is pretty loud. The first band we heard wasn’t very good, but the second one was really nice. They have beers, wines, and ciders. The bathrooms are kind of weird.

Overcharged me to a tune of $40 for a single can of coors. I didn’t open a tab and they didn’t give me a reciept. I signed for a $4 beer and left a $1 tip. The phone number and email to contact them both go to a dead end. They never responded to my FB messages attempt to contact them. They are a fun dance club and I love this venue, but I am disappointed that there is no accountability and they can get away with charging you whatever. The bartender was clearly intoxicated and he also put a bunch of other drinks on my friends tab that she never ordered either, but she caught it in time. My advice is bring cash and check your receipts if buying drinks. Disappointing.

Rating is for what it is: A 1,000% 5-star ghetto-fabulous dive bar - the best I've seen in the area - perfectly right on point. And not cliche in concept - they literally have the cheapest drinks and shots, and $4 tamales - I had 3! And or the low price of $12, I may add. Tamales were so surprisingly legit.

Tuesday night is BYOR bring your own record. Awesome little upstairs bar. With a cool and fun bartender. Well definitely be back. Tamales at the bar or tacos downstairs can't go wrong.

I'm actually posting a review on Lady Bird Tacos... If you all don't know, it's a new taco cart the owner has set up in from of Rubies, and they are open during lunch hours (until 3pm I believe). Highly recommend the Al Pastor! Real chunks of pineapple... and the spicy salsa has delicious depth of flavor.
