Their shinais are perfectly balanced, durable, and a joy to use—but what truly sets them apart is the overall quality of all their gear, from bogu and uniforms to accessories. Everything feels authentic, well-crafted, and built with kenshi in mind. One of the biggest highlights is that this is one of the very few places in the world where you can order a carbon Do. It’s incredibly light—much lighter than the standard plastic Yamato Do, and far lighter than a bamboo Do. After experiencing it, I don’t think I can ever go back to a regular Yamato Do again. The customer service is also outstanding—friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help with sizing or recommendations. Ordering here feels more like getting advice from a trusted dojo senpai than just another online store. I chose Hokubei Budogu for my shinai and some additional gear, partly on the recommendation of my sempai at the dojo and partly after doing some research on their products. Mr. Yong Back was incredibly easy to reach and very pleasant and helpful throughout the process, which made the whole experience smooth and reassuring. My order arrived meticulously packaged and in perfect condition, and the balance and quality of the shinai feel excellent. I recently purchased some Madake Jissengata shinai with Koban tsuka. I truly enjoy the way this specific shinai feels balanced in my hands during practice. Already a very big fan!
