We came here specifically to do some 80s dancing, and it was a very fun atmosphere. It is definitely a Goth bar, but everyone is welcoming and friendly, and we were able to find a table tucked away to to hang out with our friends.
First time going and won't be returning. The 80s goth vibe with smoke machines was nice enough, but the super rude bartender in the back ruined it for my trio. Not sure why she refused to serve a double Jameson and gingerale for a first drink (saying they didn't do doubles?) but it wasn't even gingerale- it was ginger beer. Afterward, when we ordered 2 of the same drinks as the first time, both were made obviously wrong (they were on their specialty cocktail menu with one being a tequila base and the other an absinthe base) since they tasted like a weak vodka soda and literally just coca cola. When we let her know they were incorrect, she got immediately defensive asking "well, what do you want me to do?".. We asked if she could remake the drinks since they weren't what we ordered to which she said she could but she'd charge for it-- in what world is that remaking a drink? If felt like after we had our first round that she treated us like drunkards and was increasingly rude. Even when we just asked for water, she told us to get some from a litter pitcher they had with the tiniest paper Dixie cups (though the bartender at the front also told us the same thing). I also saw her come and go at one point and yell at other patrons to get our of the way. Entered sober and left with barely a buzz and a bitter taste in our mouths after dropping over close to $80 on watered down and incorrectly made drinks. Plus the basement was closed even though it was a Saturday. I was really excited to go there since it looks cool, but the horrible service isn't worth it.
So awesome! We went during one of the busiest nights Friday 13th, there was a show; went amazing. Great open areas for dancing but also loved the places to be able to sit. Great rooms and different areas to walk around in, loved having options for different rooms with different music. Fantastic ambiance! Everyone was friendly and accepting. Definitely a must go. Drinks were well priced. Recommend ticket in advance. Only thing wish there were more food options, great vegan selection but when wanting to be a carnivore nothing right there, had to travel to another bar down the road...
The Coffin Club is a Goth themed concert venue, bar, and dance venue. I have been there six plus times to see music acts like Die Robot, Matt Hart, and Curse Mackey. There are two floors. The basement floor has a separate stage, a full bar, booths, and DJ booth and uni-sex bathroom. It has been closed since winter for reasons I have yet to pin down. The main floor has two bars, a small stage, and a DJ booth. Booth are sequestered around the many rooms surrounding the stage. I have no idea if the place has food. The door only takes cash to enter for events, unless you have bought your ticket before hand on-line. This is a goth bar, so dress accordingly. The patrons all seem to have a good time and I have never seen people act poorly.
The Coffin Club truly takes you back to the 80's (or what I imagine the 80's new wave/goth scene was like). Everyone was super respectful. The drink prices were great, and I look forward to coming back at some point to see a show downstairs. I'm not positive if the downstairs area is wheelchair accessible but would be interested to know.
Aaaaaaamazing. I’m not from Portland, where I live there are no goth clubs. So this place place was just so amazing! I got there right when they open, so I was the first one there and got to really explore. The decorations are so cool, the place is huge. And if you are alternative, you’ll fit right in. Also, the vibe of everyone was amazing, so sweet and welcoming !
I've been going here for years (since it was LC). They host a variety of cool events. On my best friend's wedding night, we all came out to Coffin Club and there was an incredible drag show that evening. It was so good, and we had such a wonderful and memorable time that night. It's a very safe and inclusive space, spooky 80's goth vibes and it's awesome. Downstairs they have a venue space and large dance floor. Last night I saw Sidewalks & Skeletons there and it was fantastic!! They play different types of music upstairs and downstairs. Bars and restrooms upstairs and downstairs as well.
